Signs of life after late abortion

The development of neonatal care has led to an ever clearer conflict between the ambition of giving women the possibility of late abortion where there are strong reasons for this, and the provision in the Swedish Abortion Act that no viable fetuses may be aborted. In this report the Swedish National Council on Medical Ethics analyses ethical issues in connection with late abortion close to the medical limit for viability. Based on this analysis, the Council gives a number of recommendations to health care providers, health professionals and lawmakers.
